How I came to know about Koo App ?

This is a funny story 😅. Actually my younger brother(he is from the non-technical background) applied for Koo App for a Data Analyst Internship by approaching a recruiter. However, the recruiter asked him if he was interested in an SDE Internship.

This is when my brother advised me to apply for Koo App(Indian Twitter, Third Winner of India’s AtmaNirbhar App Innovation Challenge), as it’s a growing Indian startup and is surely going to have a very bright future.

How I applied ?

I approached a technical recruiter directly through LinkedIn(this was a different recruiter). I remember that in about 15 minutes I received the call from the recruiter asking few questions like, “Why Koo ?”, “Why are you appropriate for the position ?” and most importantly, “Why do you want to intern in your 2nd year of college ?”.

I’ll mention my answer to the last question.

“I want to learn as much as I can, I want to fail as early as I can. There’s always a first time. I never care about what others do, what matters to me is what I can do. Though I consider myself as equally capable as any third/fourth year student in terms of technical knowledge, however I can guarantee that my will power and passion to learn is higher than anyone else.”

Background Story: I strongly believe that we all have to face certain number of failures in our lives, the earlier it happens the better human we emerge..

The recruiter replied that he would sharing the OA link and then we would decide accordingly.

Online Assessment

Platform : HackerEarth

Duration : 1 hour 15 minutes

No. of Questions : 3

The difficulty rating can be categorised as 1 Leetcode Easy, 1 Leetcode Medium & 1 Leetcode Hard.

The challenge was a little difficult to be honest. However, I had solved similar problems in past on CodeForces and Leetcode. So, I could solve the challenge in about 45–60 minutes.

After a day I received a call for the interview.

Interview Experience

It was just 1 interview lasting about 30–45 minutes. The tricky part is, that I was contacted by the recruiter in Morning 8:00 a.m. to schedule the interview at 9:00 a.m. 🥲 I requested the recruiter to at least shift it to 12:00 p.m. The recruiter was very cooperative and scheduled the interview to 11:30 a.m.😆

My advise to you would be to schedule the interview on the same day when the recruiter contacts you, else you might loose your chance.

Let’s talk about the interview.

It was a fairly easy interview. I was asked to code 1 question related to Data Structures and I had to write few SQL queries. Then, I was asked about my projects and resume stuff. The very same day I received my selection mail 🥳

Overall Experience

The recruitment process was very smooth. Though it was just a 2 month long internship, however this was my first paid internship(redeemable vouchers, no cash). I actually learnt how to use Slack 😂, or even the company GSuite ID 🙈.

The startup is growing and has a lot to improve which is very natural. So, no suggestions/advices on that. But, one thing I can assure is, very soon Koo would be known by its own name and not “Indian Twitter” 😉
